Via Negativa: FOUR DEATHS

Regarding envy. Envy is always a story about the other, about the one that a person envies. A person can be envious about the success, recognition, respect... Envy is one of the most deeply rooted and the most destructive feelings which motivate our actions. The ultimate goal of envy is not to become the other but to destroy, annul and erase everything that the other symbolises and represents. The Biblical story about Cain and Abel is a paradigm about envy: one brother kills his sibling for God’s love. A theatre is an environment of harsh competition and comparisons on different levels: fiction in relation to reality, a performance in relation to other performances, a performance in relation to other performers... The position of God (God’s love) in the theatre is taken by the audience. In our story about envy we asked ourselves who is our Abel? Whom do we have to kill in order to gain the audiences’ love?
